Analysis
Dear Ms. Jeanette Dick:
During the time that it took me to read chapter two, I
noticed it mainly focused on a readers’ profile. To efficiently determine a
reader’s profile, you must; (1) Identify your readers, (2) Identify your readers’
needs, values, and attitudes, and (3) Identify the contexts of how the reader
will experience your document.
On page 22 in Technical
Communication Today, there is a Reader Analysis Chart. This chart provides
me with a way to determine needs, values, and attitudes of the different
readers. By using this chart, I can help determine how Figure 2.7 anticipates
the readers’ needs.
Readers
|
Needs
|
Values
|
Attitudes
|
Primary
|
Entertainment
|
Imagination
|
Excited or
ambitious
|
Secondary
|
Something
that is appealing to the person they want to recommend the product to
|
Efficiency and
profit
|
Happy or positive
|
Tertiary
|
Something
that projects a positive to the primary readers
|
Efficiency
and social concerns
|
Hopeful
|
Gatekeepers
|
How
appealing is this to the primary reader?
|
Profit
|
Careful,
concerned, and skeptical
|
After reviewing Figure 2.7, I could come up with what I
thought the needs, values, and attitudes of the readers were. I figured the
primary readers would be the children interested in buying the Lego product.
These children would be looking for something to play with. I figured that the
secondary readers would be a store trying to sell the Lego product. They would
be wanting to convince people to buy this product for a child. The tertiary and
gatekeepers would be interested in how well they believed the product would
sell.
Overall, the Reader Analysis chart is very useful whenever is
comes to identifying the readers’ profile. I do believe that this chart will be
used throughout this course efficiently.

Subject: Changing of store hours
Our store hours will be
changing because of the increase in gas prices.
First, our stores will
now be closed on Sundays. This is to allow all of you to work fewer days in the
week. Our new hours of operation will now be Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM
to 6:00 PM. If you are a full-time employee, including managers, you will work
four ten hour shifts. If you are a part-time employee you could have a 1, 2, or
3-day work week, depending on how many hours you chose to work. Please get with
your store managers to see your new schedule. If you have any issues with your
new schedule, please notify them to get it figured out.
Please review these
changes with your store managers. These hours will be effective immediately in
all stores. We apologize if any of these
changes do not work with your current personal schedule and we thank you for
being understanding of these changes. If you have any questions, please call me
at (352) 331-2222. I can also be reached by email at kira.lyell@jcpenny.com. Thanks.

Subject: Job
Application
For this week’s
assignment, I stated that a job was available at Douglas & Carter, which is
a local law firm located in Lake City, Florida. The position that is available
is for an Office Manager.
I would greatly
appreciate any critique that you may have after reviewing my submitted
assignment. I had some trouble when drafting my resume. I don’t have a lot of
experience in the work force so it was hard to elaborate on certain things. One
thing I had a lot of trouble with was elaborating on skills I may have. I’m
looking forward to what you all have to say about you own skills to see what I
can add that I may have not thought of.
I look forward to hearing
from all of you and being able to read your application letters and resumes
also. Thank you.
