Dear Professor Dick:
In the past of my
educational career, I have mainly focused on essays that are used to inform
others of a specific topic that I have been told to write about. These types of
essays are very useful considering they are the main style you will use
throughout your educational career. But they are very different from the format
of writing that you will be expected to use in an office setting.
In the career that I
chose I will be required to communicate, not only within my office, but with
many other people including; opposing counsel’s, insurance companies, and
Judge’s assistants. I will primarily be communicating through e-mail, but we
will occasionally use letters as well. While looking throughout the textbook
this first week, I noticed that this class would be perfect for me. So far, I
have not been able to visit this type of writing format. Technical writing will
help me learn to communicate with someone else, rather than just describe a
specific topic to one person.
Technical writing will
help prepare me for my future. Like I said before, my career will require a lot
of communication. Since I have not a lot of practice with different types of
writing formats, besides descriptive, this class will help me expand my
knowledge.
Even though descriptive
formatted essays are very useful in school, this formatting won’t be used very
often in an office. I look forward to learning these knew writing styles this
semester.
Sincerely,
Kira Lyell

RE:
Changes in Hours of Operation
Customers:
We would like to inform you that our stores will now be
opening at 9:00 AM and closing at 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. We will
also be closed on Sundays from now on. We apologize for any inconvenience that
this may bring to you.
The business has chosen to change out weekly hours due to
the rising gas prices. Because we will be closed on Sundays our employees will
have more time off and spend less on gas. We hope this change is not too
inconvenient for you since we will now be open for 10 hours each day, instead
of 9 hours.
If you have any questions about our stores new hours,
please feel free to stop by and ask. You can also call us at (352) 331-2222.

RE:
Job Opening for Office Manager
Dear Douglas & Carter:
I wish to apply for your job opening as an Office
Manager at your Lake City office location. I believe I have the proper skills
and training for this job position. I am people oriented, organized, attentive,
and a fast learner. I also have prior experience in customer service.
I have graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business
management from Sante Fe College in Gainesville, Florida. I believe after many
hours of studying and hard work, I am prepared to run an office. Being a part
of your team would give me an opportunity to grow with your firm and hopefully
stay long term.
I hope you are interested in my resume and consider me
for the job position as an Office Manager. I am available for interviews
weekdays after 4:00 p.m. or all day Saturday.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Kira Lyell
